Obituary for Jack Ramsay

Jack Ramsay
James C. "Jack" Ramsay, age 91, passed away June 21, 2018 in Athens, GA. He was a native of Old Hickory, TN, and son of the late James F. and Jennie Bell Ligon Ramsay. He was also preceded in death by his wife Charlene Nolen Ramsay, a brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday June 25, 2018 at Oconee Chapel, 2370 Hog Mountain Rd, Watkinsville, GA, with Rev. Paul Baxley officiating. Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12 Noon Monday until service time at Oconee Chapel.
He is survived by sons, Chuck (Kit) Ramsay and Carter (Kim) Ramsay; grandchildren, Kati (Philip) Milam, Charlie (Amanda) Ramsay, and Victoria Ramsay; great grandchildren, Ramsay Katherine and Oliver Burke Milam, and Addison Lee, Ella James, and Lucy Charles Ramsay.
Mr. Ramsay was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Shields in the South Pacific. He attended the University of Tennessee and was an honors graduate of the University of Florida majoring in forestry. Following graduation he went to work for the Tennessee Dept. of Conservation in Martin, TN. He then embarked on a 34 year career in various supervisory positions for The DuPont Company. He worked in Chattanooga, TN, and Waynesboro, VA, before moving to Athens, GA when the plant opened in 1972. Upon his retirement, he started Ramsay Industrial Safety Consultants servicing companies from California to Indonesia.
Mr. Ramsay was a skilled fisherman and hunter as well as an ardent sports fan. After moving to Athens, he became an avid Georgia Bulldog fan attending football, basketball, and baseball games and tennis matches regularly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oconee County Senior Center, 3500 Hog Mountain Rd, Watkinsville, GA, 30677.
