Obituary for Philip Ernest Basinger

Philip Ernest  Basinger
Philip Ernest Basinger, 73, of Athens, died Thursday, April 26, 2018.
Born in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Frank Basinger and Leah Virginia Kennedy Basinger. Mr. Basinger was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served as an Officer for over eight years. He was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, three Purple Heart Medals, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation Medal. He retired after working at the Navy Supply Corp School for over 19 years. Mr. Basinger was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Tuckston United Methodist Church and was active in events for the Lyndon House Arts Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jason Green and two sisters, Dorothy Basinger and Shirley Hodge.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Linda Basinger; children, Mindy (Douglas) Hill, Melissa Green, Philip (Misty) Basinger, Rebecca Richardson, Isabella Basinger and Jessica Woelfel; son-in-laws, Neil Woelfel and Jimmy Davis; grandchildren, Asher, Aaron and Gabi Hill, Jonathan and Jason Green, Brianna, Philip Everitt and Stephanie Basinger, Hailey and Kylie Woelfel and Ariana Davis and siblings, Frank (Janet) Basinger, George (Betty) Basinger and Debbie (Terry) Martin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Tuckston United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm at the church. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Asher, Aaron, Jonathan, Jason and Philip.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tuckston United Methodist Church, 4175 Lexington Rd, Athens, GA 30605 or the Military Order of the Purple Heart, 5413 B Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151 or the Lyndon House Arts Center, 211 Hoyt St, Athens, GA 30601.
