Obituary for Benjy Woodrow Fincher

Benjy Woodrow Fincher
Benjy Woodrow Fincher, 80, husband of 62 years to Ruth Ann Smith Fincher, died Wednesday, March 14th, in Athens, Georgia. Born in Albemarle, NC, he was the son of the late Nay W. Fincher and Mary Margaret Hatley Fincher. Benjy graduated with honors in 1968 from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA and in 1983 he received his Doctor of Law degree from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, GA. Prior to his retirement he was a Regulatory Attorney for the Sprint Corporation. Benjy was a dedicated Christian who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandson. He loved NASCAR, Fords, baseball, and football. He enjoyed poetry, especially Robert Frost, playing setback, chess and carroms. He was generous, amiable, and humble. Benjy was completely dedicated to his family then to his friends and acquaintances and then to his career. It is difficult to describe such a great man in one word. He was the best. In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by two children: Cathy Fincher Reed, Benjy W. Fincher Jr. and wife Linda, his sister Yvonne Bowen and husband Bob. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Rachel Anne Reed and her husband Zachary Dumas and three grandsons, Aaron Christopher Reed and wife Tabitha, Isaiah Levi Reed and wife Mary Elizabeth Craig, Nathaniel Arthur Reed and his wife April and Great grandson Levi Charles Reed. Memorials may be made to The Lewy Body Dementia Association, lbda.org, 912 Killian Rd SW, Lilburn, GA 30047 or to Highland Park Baptist Church, P.O. Box 82949, Conyers, GA, 30013. A celebration of Benjy’s life is planned for this summer.
