Obituary for Teresa Blanton Asher

Teresa Blanton Asher
Teresa Blanton Asher, 83, died Monday, January 8, 2018. She was known to her family as “Mimi”. Mimi was born in Dallas, Texas on October 6th, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents John Robert Blanton and Lena Maureen Blanton, and her siblings Patrick Blanton and Martha Bernier. She is survived by her siblings Joanne Miller and Jerry Blanton of San Antonio, her three children: Michael P. Asher of Bishop, Cynthia Asher Keating of Watkinsville, Joanne Floyd Bath of Bishop; grandchildren: Jason, John, Daniel, Emily, Michael, Josh, Olivia and 14 great grandchildren.
In the mid 60’s she gathered up her young family and moved to Greenwood, South Carolina and eventually made a new home in the Atlanta area where she worked as an auditor for the Amoco Oil Company. Over time this turned into a full time business as she became an owner of several Amoco Oil convenience stores. Upon retirement she relocated to Watkinsville, Georgia to be near her son Mike Asher and daughters Cindy Keating and Joanne Floyd Bath.
By this time there were grandchildren and so Mimi set her anchor, and bought a home in Hickory Hill.
She loved to garden and could turn red dirt into a thing of beauty with her green thumb. Mimi was also the favorite cook of the family, well known for her minestrone soup, chicken spaghetti, and enchiladas. For many years she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was known for her generosity to anyone in need.

“Mimi loved her family with abundant strength and passion. Every time I saw Mimi, she would drop what she was doing, throw her hands in the air with exclamation and give a warm hug. I’ll miss her unabashed honesty, the way she popped mint gum, and her joyful presence. I love you Mimi.” Josh Asher, grandson

“She was our family’s example of strength and tenacity in the midst of hardship and always had just the right amount of sarcasm and sass to keep us laughing and fighting for joy. She was the glue, the matriarch, the enchilada queen, and pincher of all cheeks. She was our family’s heart string and she loved us fiercely.”
Emily Floyd Mayo, granddaughter

“She had the most kind, extraordinary soul and truly loved everyone around her. She carefully knitted into my life a love for gardening, animals, God, people, pickled okra and cheese.” Olivia Asher, granddaughter

“She was not only my mom, but was also my best friend and was the kindest most deeply loving person I have ever known. I am grateful that she is finally free of pain and in the company of those she loved that went before her.” Cindy Keating, daughter

These words reflect the hearts of our family and yet do not come close to sharing the enormity of the legacy that has been left to us by our beloved Mimi.

The family will be having a private memorial; we ask for your prayers during this bittersweet time. We thank you all for the outpouring of love we have experienced from so many people far and wide.
