Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Guthrie

Joseph "Joe" Guthrie
Joe Guthrie, 53, died October 20, 2017.

A lifelong Oconee County resident and member of the OCHS class of 1982, Joe was married to Teresa Harris Guthrie for sixteen years. He owned and operated Guthrie Home Improvement and was known to be a hard-working, meticulous craftsman. Joe also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the “Watkinsville Shell Station Breakfast Club”, as well as helping with church chicken mull events and fundraisers for several local charities and organizations.

Joe loved all his girls! With 5 sisters, 3 daughters, and soon to be 5 granddaughters, he was frequently heard saying “girls, girls, girls... all he had was girls!” He enjoyed making up both sweet and silly rhymes and songs for his daughters and granddaughters.

Memorial services will be Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST with Rev. Sheila L. Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to “Oconee Food for Kids” c/o Oconee Area Resource Council, PO Box 149, Watkinsville, GA 30677.

Survivors include his mother, Joyce Guthrie of Statham; daughters and sons-in-law, Melisa (Matt) McCue of Watkinsville, Brittany (Tim) Allgood of Crawford, and Bailey Guthrie of Peachtree City; granddaughters Emily (TJ) Lowe, Addison Eberhardt, Finley Allgood, Hadley Allgood, and “soon to arrive” Landrie McCue; sisters, Connie (Audrey) Gowder, Phyllis Rogers, Judy (Wayne) Stone and Elaine (Eddy) Gunter; a large extended family including a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Henderson and son-in-law, Doug Eberhardt.

Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
