Obituary for Bernadine Miller

Bernadine Miller
Bernadine Miller, 96, died August 13, 2017.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Catherine Murphy Kurtz. She was the widow of Victor Hugo Miller and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Pursell, a sister, Celeste Breen and a great granddaughter, Emily Craig-Parker.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Survivors include six children, Victor (Anna) Miller of Athens, Catherine (David) Pursell of Hartwell, Sue (Clifford) Shepstone of Athens, Edward (Jan) Miller of Ormond Beach, FL, Kevin (Brenda) Miller of Alpharetta and Bernadine (Garnett Llewallyn, Jr.) McCranie of Athens; twenty-one grandchildren, Robert Miller, Patricia Ruthburg, Victor Miller, Maryanne Orr, Diane Vance, Kenneth Pursell, Todd Pursell, Vonnie Craig-Parker, Stephen Shepstone, Sean Shepstone, Dulcy Reck, Shanna Ravenna, Jack Miller, Devin Miller, Brian Miller, Bailey Barber, Kevin Miller, Kelly Miller, Todd McCranie and Katie McCranie Mayhew; twenty-four great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.

Bernadine & Vic lived in several different states throughout their lives together. Bernadine viewed each move as a great adventure. She delighted in turning each new house into a warm home for her family and gathering new friends along the way. After the children were all grown, she began a career in real estate. In 1974, the couple landed in Athens and knew immediately that this would be their forever home. Retirement allowed her to pursue her loves of playing golf and bridge, and volunteering her time at St Mary’s Hospital. Bernadines greatest love was her family. Her pride and love for each and every member was palpaple.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
