Obituary for Robert Davis Yager

Robert Davis Yager
Robert Davis Yager, March 20, 1935 – May 18, 2017`

Bob Yager was born in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of James Gordon Yager and Lurene Belle (Davis) Yager, along with his sisters Mary Ann and Wendy. He graduated from the University of Iowa (1957) with a B.A. in Marketing, on a football scholarship.

Yager met his wife, Janet, in Sacramento, California, while working as a sales representative for a men’s sportswear company. He continued making his mark in that industry for the next 35 years, traveling the U.S. as a national sales manager for several young men’s fashion brands including Britannia Jeans and Rusty’s.

In his late 50s, Yager grew weary of life on the road and retrained himself in a new career in residential Real Estate in the Seattle, Washington area. He enjoyed a natural ease with people and great personal integrity that made him a success with his clients and business associates in both professions.

During his retirement years, Robert and Janet celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in 2010, and moved to Athens, Georgia, to be closer to their daughter's family. Yager was active in the local chapter of Kiwanis International and applied his considerable energies to community-spirited projects such as the Birchmore Memorial 5k Race, and Books for Keeps. He was awarded the George F. Hixson Fellowship from Kiwanis in 2016 for "generosity and inspiration." He also enjoyed playing bridge, and the many friendships he made through theOsher Lifelong Learning Institute(OLLI). He continued to love football and even though he remained a Seattle Seahawks fan, he and his grandsons spent many a Saturday afternooncheering for the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Visitation from 3:00-5:00 pm Sunday May 21, 2017 at Lord & Stephens, East Chapel, Starting at 4:00 pm we will have readings and reflections by family and friends.

Yager is survived by his wife Janet, his children James, Patricia, and Steven, his grandsons Zachary and Alexander, and his sons-in-law David Floyd and Steven Holland.

Lord & Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
