Obituary for Harold O'Kelley

Harold D. O’Kelley, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Bethlehem, Georgia on July 20, 2016. Born and raised in Oglethorpe County he was the son of the late Dock and Ruby Bryant O’Kelley. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Annie Hamby and Winona Gibson, stepsons, Lecil Sorrow and Richard Sorrow. A former member and deacon of Colbert Baptist Church, he was a member of Corinth Baptist Church at the time of his death.

Mr. O’Kelley began serving his country in the Navy at the age of 17 and retired from the Air Force in 1968 as a veteran of three wars. While in the military he began working his way through the masonic ranks and served as Worshipful Master of the Shannon Lodge. He was also the president of the Colbert Lyons Club in 1973 and was instrumental in starting the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department. He retired in the position of industrial engineering manager for Reliance Electric.

Mr. O’Kelley was known to all as a very loving man whose love of life and positive attitude were contagious to those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Kris Sheppard O’Kelley, daughter, Lauren O’Kelley-Allbritten (Greg), son, Brian O’Kelley, step-daughter, Tracy Goodman (G.W.), step-son Stephen Sheppard (Sharon), daugher-in-law, Marcia Sorrow, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 23rd from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Lord and Stephens, East with a memorial service immediately following at 1:00 P.M.
