Obituary for Joey B. Finley

Joey B. Finley
Joey Barry Finley, 79, of Winterville, has been united with his Heavenly Father after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie Gunter Finley. Joey was born and raised in Abbeville, S.C. and spent two years in the United States Army after high school. He began his ironworking career in 1964 with the construction of Stegman Coliseum. His love for his work carried him to many projects, both in state and out of state. He was a tireless laborer who took great pride in his work and was a mentor to many who worked along side him. At home he loved to spend his days in his garden and continued to do so, even after his disease overtook him. He was a generous friend to many, always willing to take on any task asked of him.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Manley Finley, sons, Joey Barry Finley Jr. (Leah), and Brian Craig Finley (Ellen), daughter, Kathy DePriest (Tommy), grandchildren, Taylor Finley, Tommy DePriest, Clint DePriest (Jessica), and Nick DePriest (Molly), great grandchildren, Caleb, Cate, Ally, and John DePriest, and beloved cat, Mojo.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 13th from 6-8 P.M. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 14th at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Lord and Stephens, East. Burial will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
