Obituary for Mary Lessie Scott (Mattox)

Mrs. Lessie “Mama” Scott, 100, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Mrs. Scott was born January 12, 1918 in Oglethorpe County to the late John A. Mattox and Rossie Lovinggood Mattox. She was retired from the University of Georgia. She loved the Lord, enjoyed the company of her friends and family, tending to her roses, and playing games.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry “Bo” Scott and her siblings Ruth Cline, Monteen Smith, Nell McCannon, Parks Mattox, Johnny Doyle Mattox, Blanton Mattox, Billy Bibb Mattox and Jimmy Mattox.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Bowman (Billy) of Winterville; grandchildren, Joe Bowman (Maria), Jeff Bowman (Alice Ann), and Jay Bowman (Cynthia); nine great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge her caregivers: Sam Carruth, Yvetta Thomas, Cita Simmons, and Cynthia Hudson.
Visitation will be Friday July 27, at 2 pm followed by 3 pm funeral services at Crawford Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Crawford Perpetual Care Cemetery or Crawford Baptist Church.
