Obituary for Robert Wallace Lang

Robert Wallace Lang
Robert “Bob” Wallace Lang, 72, of Watkinsville, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018.
Bob was born in Brockton, Mass., and spent his childhood in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, where he also picked up the affectionate nickname, Sam. He was stationed in Alaska during his tenure in the U.S. Army. After his discharge in 1972, he remained in Alaska, raising his family and serving as a forest firefighter and EMT until 1990 when he moved to Idaho.
Bob was a true outdoorsman whose knowledge and passion for nature knew no bounds. The joy and fulfillment he felt when in the woods or on the water was unmatched only by his love and devotion to his family and friends.
Bob moved to the Watkinsville area in 2000 and worked for UGA campus transit until his retirement 10 years later. He loved his time working for the University of Georgia and the students he met during those years. As a result, Bob quickly became an enthusiastic Bulldog fan no matter the sport.
Bob’s warmth and zeal for life was unmistakable. He never met a stranger and always saw the best in everyone, living out the words in John 13:35: “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Throughout his life he was an active member of the Elks Club, the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and his church, Faith Presbyterian.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lynnette, along with five children: Tanya Lang of Palmer, Alaska; April (Greg) Musick of Seattle, Wash.; Lorena Lang of Vancouver, Wash.; Christina Lang of Las Vegas, Nev; Samuel Lang of Phoenix, Ariz.; three step-children: Aimee Jones of Covington, Ga.; Robin (Max) Benedict of Tampa, Fla.; and Kim (Sam) Horner of Athens, Ga. Bob is also survived by four siblings: Gordon Lang of Jackson, N.H.; Marcia (Jim) Larkin of Pottsboro, Texas; Bea (Bob) Davis of Jackson, N.H.; and Dorothy (John) Magoun of Northborough, Mass. He was a beloved grandfather to 12 grandchildren: Gage Allison, Alea Anderson, Tyson Musick, Ada Musick, Clay Jones, Hannah Jones, Faith Benedict, Grace Benedict, Isaac Horner, Wren Horner, Elodie Horner, and Jude Horner.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 26, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Watkinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Christian Motorcyclists Association, P. O. Box 9, Hatfield, AR 71945; Camp Gorsuch Scout Camp, Great Alaska Scout Council, 3117 Patterson St, Anchorage, AK 99504; or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
Lord and Stephens, West is in charge of arrangements.
