Obituary for Berkeley S Minor (Smith)

Berkeley Napier Smith Minor, wife of Henry Daniels Minor, Athens, Georgia, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, after a fall and head injury. Mrs. Minor was born April 7, 1938, in the Middle Georgia Hospital in Macon, Georgia, to Robert Monroe Smith (Bob) and Marion Rose Napier. Her maternal grandparents were Hendley Varner Napier Jr. and wife, Viola Felton Ross of Macon, Georgia; her paternal grandparents were Arnie Butler Smith and Lelia Butler Smith of Pulaski, Tennessee.
Berkeley grew up in Macon, Georgia, and graduated from Miller High School for Girls in 1956. She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Art, both from the University of Georgia. She served as President of Beta Nu chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She taught art for eight years at Cedar Shoals High School, Athens, Georgia.
Berkeley married Henry Daniels Minor on December 24, 1961, at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Macon, GA, and celebrated their anniversary with their family most every Christmas Eve. Great was Berkeley’s delight in her children and grandchildren. Berkeley and Dan loved to travel and took their family on many wonderful vacations across the country. Berkeley was a lovely, gracious lady, a gifted art teacher, and had a flair for color and design. She was a member of The Georgia Museum of Art, was currently serving on the Board of Advisors, previous president of the Docents, previous president of the Friends of the Museum Board; Berkeley was an early member of St Gregory The Great Episcopal Church; member of University Womans Club, 2007/2008 President; Member, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), UGA; Member, UGA’s Willson Center for Humanities and Art.
She is survived by her loving husband, Henry Daniels Minor; her son, Daniels Napier Minor, and daughter, Marion Creecy Minor Mullinax; Granddaughters Celeste Chamlee Minor, Christina Ross Minor and their mother Doris Chamlee Cabaniss Minor; Grandsons Roy Paul Mullinax II, James Ross Mullinax; brother Walton Napier Smith, and his wife, Susan Rush Baum.
Services are Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 1:00pm at St. Gregory The Great Episcopal Church, 3195 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA. The Rev. Laura Bryant officiating with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to the UGA Foundation at The Georgia Museum of Art, Attn: Memorial Gifts honoring Berkeley Minor, 90 Carlton St, Athens, GA 30602.
