Garnett Elliott Williams, 85, husband of Carlene Morris Williams, died Thursday, March 29, 2018. Born in Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late Roy Williams and Lurene Whitehead Carney. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Ed Williams and Joe Eubanks and first wife; Montie Jo Shelnutt Williams. Elliott graduated from Winterville High School where he was a stellar basketball player. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and had worked for Independent Life Insurance and managed Fortson’s Store. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children: Tommy (Lisa) Williams, Marie (Ricky) Scarborough, Rusty (Ben) Williams, Tracy (Bret) Fowler, Mary (Kevin) Monahan, Judy Gairns, William (Kim) Gairns; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; special caregiver: Hollie Leahman. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11AM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Morris Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at Colbert Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
