Obituary for Jeannette Vermeulen

Jeannette "Netty" Maria Cornelisse deHaas Vermeulen, age 87, passed away March 17, 2018. Born January 3, 1931, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, she had lived the last 23 years in Athens, GA after previously living in Dobbs Ferry, NY and New York, NY. Netty was the daughter of Martinus Theodorus Maria deHaas and Geertruida Cornelisse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andries Jacobus Vermeulen, and 6 of her 7 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Irene Stephens of Carlton, GA, Trudy Ginsburg of Seymour, CT, her grandson Jason Hatfield of Athens, GA, and her remaining sister Geertruida deHaas vanIterson.
She was an accomplished chemist who helped develop many modern day medications. She was a Queen in the Red Hat Society, active advocate for the American Cancer Society, and an elder in her church.
A memorial service will be held at 4pm Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Alps Road Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow. Burial will be in Hawthorne NY next to her late husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences can be sent to 755 Epps Bridge Parkway #414, Athens, GA 30606.
