Obituary for Brenda Lee Barrett (Swann)

Brenda Lee Barrett (Swann)
Brenda Lee Swann Barrett, 77, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at her residence. Born in Augusta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Maxwell Swann, Sr. and Lilly Mae “Macy” Wells Swann and sister to the late Allen Swann. Brenda was a graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta, and she attended the University of Georgia where she became a lifelong Bulldog fan. She was a great supporter of Oconee County Schools where she became the first female on the Oconee County Board of Education and diligently served for 15 years. She was an active member of Athens Junior Women’s Club and then Watkinsville Women’s Club. Her volunteer work at Athens Regional Medical Center was one of her most meaningful pursuits. She devoted 25 years, held the office of President of the Women’s Auxiliary (1 term), and served on the Board of Directors for many years. She was a longtime member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and a member of the Christian Home Builders Sunday School Class. She loved traveling around the world in her earlier years and attending her Bridge Clubs and Dinner with the YaYa’s in her later years. Her most passionate lifelong pastime was entertaining her family and friends at the lake. Survivors include her daughters and sons in law: Sharon and Travis Maxey of Statham, Beth and Bill Richardson of Cumming; brother: Raymond Maxwell (Linda) Swann of Thompson and three grandchildren: Katie Lee Barlow, Clayton Taylor (Alyssa Moore) Maxey, Braden Barrett Maxey and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Dr. Edward Bolen and Dr. Ginny Dempsey officiating. The family would love to see you at the service in her favorite colors Bulldog Red and Black. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, 1690 South Milledge Avenue, Athens, GA 30605. Lord & Stephens West is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
