Obituary for Robbie Jean Lewis (Whitehead)

Robbie J.W. Lewis of Athens, Ga., passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA., on November 14, 2017 after a long battle with an autoimmune disease. The wife of David F. Lewis from Decatur, Ga., was 66 years young.
She was born in Atlanta, Ga., on December 4th, 1950. Her now deceased parents were Eugene F. Whitehead from Atlanta, Ga., and Chadyenne Davis Whitehead from Baxley, Ga. Robbie spent most of her life in Dekalb County until moving to Athens in 2015 where she became a proud member of The Athens First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Towers High School in Dekalb County Georgia and received her BBA degree in accounting from Georgia State University.
Robbie spent her last 30 years working with her husband in the Independent Insurance Agency business, primarily involved with Property and Casualty insurance. In her career she was very involved in the work of her trade association, the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia from which she received several awards and accolations for her contributions to the industry, including Presidential Citations.
One of her true loves was her work at Peachtree Road United Methodist with the youth. She taught Children’s Choir and Confirmation Classes. She also sang in the Adult Choir and had a wonderful singing voice. She would literally stop people in their tracks when she would sing The National Anthem at sporting events. She loved UGA Football and has had season tickets for over 40 years. She was also a great student of the game and knew more about it than most men. She had great respect for former UGA Head Coach Mark Richt for his character and contributions to our community.
Another of her interests was a book club that she started when she lived in Atlanta. The members named it after her, “Contessa Robbie’s Book Club, AKA Friendship”.
Her family has been overwhelmed by the love and gratitude expressed by her personal and professional friends and others that crossed her path. As one of her friends said “Robbie was big into life“, and she truly was. Everyone she ever met had a great friend in Robbie.
Robbie is survived by her two brothers Robert and Richard Whitehead, sister- in- laws Vickie and Carol, her special niece and nephew Carla Denise Bowman and her husband Donald Bowman, their child Mason Davis Bowman and Bobby Whitehead and his wife Kim. She is also survived by other wonderful nieces and nephews Chuck, Charlotte, Cathey, Karen, Ryan, Katie, Kendall, Harry, Sarah, Justin, Carly, Michelanne, Brooks, Gavin and Virginia Grace.

A true Celebration of Robbie’s Life will be held on Saturday December the 9th from 1 pm to 3 pm at The Athens Country Club located at 2700 Jefferson Rd. Athens, Ga. 30607 (706-354-7100).
