Obituary for Teresa Guthrie

Teresa Harris Guthrie, born May 15, 1963, passed away October 20th, 2017, at the age of 54. The passing of Teresa leaves an extensive void in the Oconee and Athens community.

Teresa was the daughter of the late Ed Crowley Harris and the late Millie Thomas Harris of Watkinsville, Georgia. Teresa was a lifelong resident of Oconee County and a 1980 graduate of Oconee County High School. She was employed for the last twenty-eight years at the University of Georgia as an administrative specialist to the Vice-President. Teresa was a lifelong member of First Christian Church - Watkinsville, Georgia.

Teresa was a talented musician. At age twelve, she began playing the piano at church. She continued as the church pianist for forty-two years and also served as choir director for the last twenty-three years. She played music, sang and assisted in the planning and performing of numerous musical events, plays, weddings, funerals and other community functions

Teresa was a gifted athlete and an avid runner. She competed in the Boston Marathon and numerous other events throughout the United States and Canada. She played softball for many years on school, church, and many independent league teams.

Her smile, out-going personality, and endless positive attitude made Teresa a joy and comfort to be near. Her many talents were freely and generously shared with everyone she encountered in her life’s journey. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Teresa will no doubt be a talented addition to the heavenly choir.

Survivors include her brother, Thomas M. (Diane) Branch; sister, Tracy Harris (Russ) Henson; three stepdaughters, Melisa (Matt) McCue, Brittany (Tim) Allgood and Bailey Guthrie; four step grandchildren; niece, Kelly B. (John) Tyre; nephews, John T. Branch, James H. Henson and Thomas I. Henson; several great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST, with Rev. Sheila L. Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 24, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Watkinsville, PO Box 287, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
