Obituary for Carol Toney

Carol Smith Toney was born in Watkinsville on April 12, 1940 to Blanche and Albert Smith. She was the widow of Dwain Allyson Toney and also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Smith.

Survivors include daughters, Pam (Tommy) Gill, Denise (Tim) O’Neill and Lisa (Bill) Brooks; siblings; LaVerne (Chuck) Brumley, Kenneth Smith, Roger (Ann) Smith; sister-in-law, Raye Smith; Uncle, Morton Smith; grandchildren, Dillon O’Neill, Graham Brooks; nieces and nephews, John (Julie) Brumley and children, Jessica and Jacob, Charla (Mike) Reed and children, Camden and Carter, Gina (Dave) Waters and daughter, MaryAnn Waters, David (Melissa) Smith and son, Noah.

Carol retired from Oconee State Bank in 1996 after thirty-five years. Following retirement, she worked for many years at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home. She was a member of Watkinsville First Christian Church, where she was active in the choir and served on many committees over the years. Carol was active in the Women’s Group and was a Diaconte. She was recognized in the 1973 edition of Outstanding Young Women in America. She was a past member of the Pilot Club.

She loved cooking, traveling and yardwork, especially her flowers and garden. She was an avid sports fan and really loved watching the UGA Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. She was considered a second mother to her nieces and nephews, as well as their children.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:00 am at Lord and Stephens, West. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
