Obituary for Kelly Bussell

Kelly Eugene Bussell Jr. of Athens Georgia passed away on August 31st.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 7th at the Chapel at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, South Milledge Ave, Athens at 12 noon.
Kelly was born on June 5th 1945 in Harlan, Kentucky, the oldest son of Frances (Frankie) and Kelly Eugene Bussell Sr.
He attended Tullahoma High School and completed his Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Performance at Tennessee Technical College. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Music Performance (Trumpet) from Florida State University. Kelly was a High School Band Director in Alabama and then in the DeKalb County School System. He later became a computer programmer and worked at the Centers for Disease Control for 25 years travelling extensively in Africa. After retiring to Athens, Kelly took up his trumpet again and joined the Classic City Band. He established the Classic V Quintet and found great happiness playing and teaching.
Kelly took great pleasure in meeting and bringing together the neighbors in Waverly Woods, who recently awarded him the official title of Buergermeister of Waverly Woods.
Family members include his wife Sandra, his son Gene and his brothers Wayne (Linda) and Clark (Pam).
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Trumpet Studio Scholarship and Support Fund at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia.
