Obituary for Ronald Dean "Ron" Keenan

Ronald Dean Keenan, 65, of Athens, GA, passed away at the Emory University Hospital on January 25, 2015, after a brief, intense illness. He began his next journey in the presence of those who loved him most. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson & Geraldine Keenan, and is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years,Vicki, their three sons, Tate, and his wife Caitlin; Travis, and his wife Kusha; Taylor, and his wife Marla; as well as four adoring grandchildren: Haley, Trew, Niah, and Logan, with a fifth on the way in July; sister, Kay (Chris) James; niece, Mika James. He is also survived by a sister, Kay Kennan James. Ron was born in Arkadelphia, AR, but made his way to Texas as quickly as he could. After graduating from high school in Temple, TX, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated as a member of the Class of 1972. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, grandfather, and an active member of our community for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and DAV for the last ten years helping his fellow veterans in their daily lives. His love, kindness, selflessness, moral certitude, sense of humor, courage, and friendly smile touched many lives, guaranteeing he will be sorely missed by his friends and his family forever. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7pm on Friday January 29, 2016 at the Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East, 4355 Lexington Rd, Athens, GA 30605. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, a nonprofit that provides free legal services to low-income military veterans and educates the public on important issues facing the veterans’ community.
